Log in to your account at www.online.net

Go to 'Zones DNS'

In 'Afficher la Zone DNS du domaine', choose the website you want to affect in the scrolling list (for example, monsite.com), then hit the red arrow at the end of the line.

When page has loaded, go to the zone that follows, called 'ajouter une entrée à la zone du domaine www.monsite.com' and, below, enter the following:

'Entrée' : www.monsite.com. (ne pas oublier le point à la fin !!! / don't forget the period at the end !!!)

'Type' : CNAME

'Priorité' : (ne rien mettre / leave blank)

'Valeur' : monsite.myshopify.com. (ne pas oublier le point à la fin !!! / don't forget the period at the end !!!)

Then hit the red arrow at the end. When the page reloads, you'll see your new entry at the bottom of the page.

WARNING : Do NOT make an additional entry for monsite.com. This will cause problems with receiving mail to your usual xxx@monsite.com. However, you do need to forward monsite.com to www.monsite.com for your visitors that do not type the www. before your address. Here's how:

Create a text file. In it, type the following (change the name of the site, of course)

# Redirection vers le site d'Online.net
RedirectPermanent / http://www.monsite.com/

Then save the file as .htaccess

Once done, put this file at your root directory on your FTP (NOT in the www folder).

You will still get your mail but your visitors will be sent off to your www.monsite address, which will take them to your Shopify store. (PS : You do not need to claim monsite.com as described below, it won't work and is not necessary).

That's it for online.net

Then, quoting from the GoDaddy instructions : All that is left to do is tell Shopify what domain we'll be using so that it can rewrite your store URLs and the rest of that magic.

  1. Go to 'Shopify Admin' > 'Preferences' > 'DNS & Domains'.
  2. Click the 'I would like to claim another Hostname…' link at the bottom of the page.
  3. Add the URL that you added to your domain forwarding, keeping in mind that Shopify has added the _http://_ part for you.
In this example here, I used www.monsite.com
  4. Click 'Claim this hostname' to save. Done!

And, as mentioned above, DO repeat steps 2-3-4 to also claim monsite.com. (in step 3, use monsite.com instead of www.monsite.com)

If Shopify shows up a message that says 'Domain claimed successfully' but then you see that it writes 'failed' instead of OK when you reload the page you're on ('Shopify Admin' > 'Preferences' > 'DNS & Domains'), simply wait. I had 2 addresses that worked instantly, and 2 that took over 8 hours. It is said that it may take up to 48 hours to work.
